Women’s Lacrosse Travels to Carroll for Key CCIW Match

Both teams enter 2-0 in conference play

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will travel to Waukesha, Wis. for a contest against Carroll University in a key College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matchup. Both teams enter the match with an unblemished 2-0 record in conference play.

The Titans (6-7, 2-0 CCIW) most recently defeated North Central College, 18-8, Wednesday, April 12. Freshman Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), sophomore Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North), and junior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) all notched six points in the match. Fiandaca finished with a match-high five points. Sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) picked up the win in between the posts, as she recorded eight saves while allowing three goals in 30 minutes of action.

Fiandaca has led the offense this season in points and goals, with 39 and 34, respectively. Fountain is second on the team in both categories, as she has 27 goals and 35 points in her freshman campaign. Maldnado rounds out the top three scorers, as she has 23 goals and 34 points.

Defensively, senior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) has a team-high 34 ground balls. Rymarcsuk follows with 26, while Fiandaca has scooped up 23. Senior Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community) leads the team with 16 caused turnovers, while Gleason and Fiandaca have caused 15 and 13, respectively.

Rymarcsuk has emerged as the top goalkeeper for the Green and White. In 453:58 minutes of action this season, the sophomore holds a 6-4 record with a .530 saves percentage. Rymarcsuk is currently 33rd in the nation with 115 saves.

Carroll enters off a 21-1 win over Elmhurst University Saturday, April 15. This will be the 11th meeting all-time between the two programs, with the Titans holding a 7-3 advantage. The most recent meeting took place April 2, 2022, with Carroll claiming a 13-12, double overtime victory. Gleason posted a hat trick in the match, while Fiandaca finished with two goals.
