Women’s Lacrosse Hosts North Central for CCIW Midweek Matchup

Titans look for ninth straight win over Cardinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After opening College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a dominant win over Augustana College Saturday, April 8, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will host North Central College for a midweek matchup Wednesday, April 12. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. 

The Titans (5-7, 1-0 CCIW) took down Augie, 22-5, in Rock Island, Ill. to begin conference action with a win. Junior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) highlighted the match with five goals and an assist, while sophomore Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) scooped up eight ground balls, tying the program's single game record. 

Fiandaca leads IWU with 33 points and 29 goals on the season. Senior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) has a team-high 14 assists, and her 31 points sits her as the second-leading scorer for the Titans. Freshman Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) has seen a dominant freshman campaign, as she is third on the team in points (31), and second in goals (24). 

Defensively, Gleason leads the Green and White with 31 ground balls, followed by sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk's (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) 24. Gleason and fellow senior Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community) each have a team-best 14 caused turnovers. 

Rymarcsuk has solidified herself as the top goalkeeper, as the sophomore holds a 5-4 record between the posts this season. In 424 minutes of action, Rymarcsuk ranks 38th in the nation in saves (107), and 21st in the nation in save percentage (.519). 

North Central (3-9, 0-1 CCIW) enters the contest off a 17-6 loss to Carroll University Saturday, April 8. IWU holds an 8-1 all-time advantage over the Cardinals, with the only loss coming in the first meeting April 18, 2015. The most recent matchup saw the Titans take a 17-7 victory April 16, 2022. Fiandaca posted four goals, while Gleason and Maldonado each finished with three. Then-junior Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior) got the win in goal, as she was credited with six saves while allowing six goals in 45:49 minutes between the posts.
