Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Concordia Chicago

Titans pick up first road win of 2023 season

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team cruised past Concordia University Chicago Wednesday, March 22, leading from start to finish. The Titans (3-6) took down the Cougars (1-3), 15-1, en route to their first victory on the road.

The Titans saw four players record hat tricks in the match, as senior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South), junior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), sophomore Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North), and freshman Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) each finished with three goals apiece. Maldonado led all players with five points.

IWU's defense was stellar from start to finish, as CUC was limited to eight shots while committing 28 turnovers, eight of which were caused. Sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) notched the win between the posts, as she stopped all four shots she faced in 30 minutes. Gleason led the Titans with six ground balls, while Maldonado and senior Kelly Carlson (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) each scooped up four. Maldonado and Fountain recorded a team-best two caused turnovers.

Illinois Wesleyan wasted no time getting started as Fiandaca buried a pass from freshman Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) at the 14:30 mark in the first period. Hanson then found Fountain just over three minutes later to put the Titans up 2-0 with 11:26 remaining. Gleason closed out the first period of action, as she recorded her first goal of the game at the 3:40 mark.

The Green and White used a seven-goal second period to ensure the victory, as the Titans never looked back and coasted to a 15-1 victory.

Illinois Wesleyan continues its string of road matches with a battle against the College of Wooster Saturday, March 25. Action is set to begin at 12 p.m. ET. Links for a live stream and live stats can be found under the women's lacrosse schedule on iwusports.com.
