Doubles Sweep Leads Men’s Tennis to Victory over Ohio Wesleyan

Titans pick up third spring break win

ORLANDO, Fla. - Powered by three wins in the doubles portion of the event, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team took down Ohio Wesleyan University, 5-4, March 16. The win improves IWU's record to 7-4, while OWU falls to 3-2.

Freshman Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and senior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) used some extra time to secure the win at No. 1 doubles with a score of 8-7, winning the tiebreaker 8-6. At No. 2 doubles, juniors Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) and Evan Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) were victorious with a score of 8-6. Freshman Ben Vigneri (Cheyenne, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and sophomore Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

The individual portion of the event saw Vigneri and Evan Turnbull complete a 2-0 day. Vigneri was the winner at No. 4 singles with scores 6-3, 6-4. Evan Turnbull helped complete the Titan victory with a win at No. 5 singles, taking down his opponents with set scores 6-2, 6-4.

Illinois Wesleyan completes its spring break trip with a match against Franciscan University of Steubenville tomorrow, March 17, at 6 p.m. ET.
