BLOOMINGTON. Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team opens fall play at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Individual Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 11-12 hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.

Head Coach Sam Totten begins his ninth season at the helm of the Green and White. He returns three letterwinners from last season's squad that finished 9-10.

Last season at the CCIW Invitational, one of the three returners, then-freshman Truman Raher (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) went 2-0 at No. 7 singles. Joining Raher is fellow sophomore, Will Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) who went 10-12 in singles and 11-11 in doubles in his rookie campaign. IWU returns one upper classman with senior Chase Tomecki (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) returning for his final season. Last season, Tomecki finished 5-5 in doubles and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete, an honor he's received three times.

Totten also brings in one of the deepest recruiting classes under his tutelage consisting of nine newcomers including seven Illinois High School Association state qualifiers, six of which finished in the top-six at least once in their careers. Joining the Titans this season are freshmen Umar Bajwa (Wheaton, Ill.-St. Francis), Daniel Canivez (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central), Owen Collins (Boca Raton, Fla.-Grandview Preparatory School), Weston Lange (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township), Lucas Rudd (Edwardsville, Ill.-Edwardsville), Spencer Sauer (Mundelein, Ill.-Mundelein), Tommy Sopko (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) TJ Stoiber (Chicago, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East), and Brandon Wong (Edwardsville, Ill.-Edwardsville)
