Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Colorado College

Titans head to Aurora Wednesday, March 1

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell to Colorado College, 18-1, Sunday Feb. 26. The Titans fall to 0-2 on the season, while CC remains a perfect 3-0. 

A career-high day for sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) between the posts was not enough to propel IWU to a win, as the goalie made 14 saves in 33:12 minutes of action. 

Senior Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community) led the Titans with three caused turnovers, while Rymarcsuk led the match with five ground balls. Freshman Simone Shapiro (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) made her collegiate debut, as she recorded a save in 26:48 minutes in goal. 

The lone goal for the Titans came from freshman Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West), as she ended the shutout with 40 seconds remaining in the game. 

The Titans were held to eight shots, while the Tigers finished with 44. IWU was outnumbered in ground balls (26-10), draw controls (13-9), and CC earned all nine free position attempts called in the match. Colorado College was successful on 16-of-18 clear attempts, while the Green and White were held to 7-of-22. IWU committed a costly 27 turnovers, while the Tigers finished with 11. 

Illinois Wesleyan will travel to the suburbs to take on Aurora University Wednesday, Mar. 1. Action will begin at 4 p.m. at the Spartan Athletic Park.
