Women’s Lacrosse Stumbles in Season Opener

Titans return to action Sunday, Feb. 26 at 12 p.m. against Colorado College

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - A short-handed Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 24-8 setback against Rhodes College at Tucci Stadium Friday afternoon, Feb. 24, in its home opener. The Titans (0-1) saw two players record the first points in the loss, as the Lynx (1-1) earned their first win of the season.

The Titans saw freshmen Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) and Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) collect their first collegiate goals, as Fountain tallied a hat-trick, while Hanson finished with two. Junior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) also finished with two goals. 

On the defensive side for the Green and White, senior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) recorded a team-high three ground balls, and five other Titans finished with a pair. Gleason and fellow senior Jennie Hubbard (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) each caused three turnovers for IWU. Sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-St. Viator) logged 45:00 minutes between the posts and led the match with seven saves.
