Women’s Volleyball Lands Two on CSC Academic All-District Team

Babec and Summers honored for academic achievements

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Seniors Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) and Lily Summers (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team Tuesday, Dec. 12. 

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have participated in 90 percent of the sets or started 66 percent of the matches during the season and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.50. 

Babec and Summers played key roles in the 2023 season for the Titans, who finished with a record of 17-13 and earned a trip to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament. 

A kinesiology and allied health major with a minor in sports management, Babec appeared in all 30 matches and started in 26. The middle hitter finished second on the team in blocks with 63, composed of 12 solo and 51 assisted rejections. She also notched 145 kills, 60 digs, 24 aces, and 16 assists on the season. The four-year letterwinner for the Titans closed out her career ranked 14th in program history with an average of 0.70 blocks per set. 

Summers, a nursing major, earns her second straight CSC Academic All-District honor. The Plainfield, Ill. native appeared in 29 matches for the Green and White, and started 17. Summers closed out her collegiate career with her strongest season, finishing second on the team with 213 points and 192 kills, while adding 166 digs, 23 blocks, three of which were solo stuffs, 10 assists, and eight aces. The outside hitter recorded three double-double performances, 10+ kills eight times, and 10+ digs in six matches this season. Summers smashed her career-bests throughout the season. She posted a career-high 14 kills against Bowdoin College Oct. 20, 17 digs against Augustana College Nov. 17, and her four aces against Wheaton College Oct. 25 set a new career record for the senior. 

The CSC Academic All-America teams will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 12 p.m. ET.
