BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving team competed in its annual IWU Invite this Saturday, Nov. 18 against Washington University in St. Louis. The men's and the women's team both fell to the Bears 156-91 (men's) and 181-93 (women's), respectively. 

The IWU men's team had one individual winner for the duration of the meet. Senior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.86. Lowder also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.86. Junior Alex Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) turned in a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 54.81. Lowder and Kula would later team up with sophomore Sam Fogarty (Pontiac, Ill.-Pontiac Township) and freshman Rylan Nelson (Normal, Ill.-University High) in the 200-yard freestyle relay for a second-place finish in 1:29.18. 

For the women, junior Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-Univsersity) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke event. She swam a time of 1:07.89. Fudge also took third place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.69) and in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.63). Also turning in third-place finishes were freshman Olivia Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.92) and senior Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.17).


The Titans are set to travel to Kenosha next for a CCIW conference battle at the Carthage Classic Thursday, Nov. 30. The meet starts at 1 p.m. and will go on for three days.
