Swim and Dive Secures Second Place at Halloween Invite

Dilger, Kula, and Fedderson earn wins

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving team took second in its home opener this Saturday, Oct. 28, at Fort Natatorium. The women finished second in a six-team meet, while the men played runner-up among five teams at IWU's Halloween Invite.


Augustana College swept the team standings, just beating out the host Titans. The Viking women collected 114 points, with IWU tallying 86 and third place Rose-Hulman with 59. Augie's men topped the standings with 115 points. The Green and White stood in second with 84 points and Anderson took third with 53.

The Titans garnered three wins via relay, while senior Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) added a victory herself on the women's side. Feddersen earned her solo win in the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:34.73 time. 

The women finished with two relay wins, as sophomore Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and seniors Jackie Rae Kelch (Peoria, Ill.-Pearia Notre Dame) and Natalie Wajda (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) finished first in the 300-yard backstroke relay (3:04.77). Garnering another win was freshman Abi Zelikman (Oakwood Hills, Ill.-Prairie Ridge), Feddersen, and junior Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University), as the trio won in the 300-yard breaststroke with a 3:33.90 time. 

On the men's side, juniors Alex Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) and Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) each tallied victories. Alex Kula competed in the 100-yard freestyle touching with a time of 49.37, while Dilger finished first in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 2:03.6. 

The men had one win in the relays, taking the crown in the 300-yard medley. Senior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), sophomore Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora), and freshman Jack Hansen (Naperville, Ill.-Benet Academy) had a combined time of 2:48.57.

Next on the schedule for the Titans is a trip to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Augustana College Saturday, Nov. 11.
