Swimming and Diving Earn 15 First-Place Finishes in Dual with Rose-Hulman

Wajda wins three individual events

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams split its meet against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday, January, 14. The women's team defeated Rose-Hulman by a score of 175-107, while the men dropped 210.5-65.5. 
 
IWU had an impressive showing in the relay portion of the meet, winning three out of the four relays. The women's team defeated the Fightin' Engineers in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.33 and in the 200 yard freestyle relay touching in a time of 1:45.91. The men came out on top in the 200 yard freestyle relay recording a time of 1:29.92. 
 
Individually, the women's team notched 10 first-place touch-ins out of 12 solo-women events. The Titans were led by junior Natalie Wajda (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) who earned three first-place finishes, in addition to a team win in the 200 yard free relay. Wajda placed first in the 50 yard free (26.03), 200 yard backstroke (2:11.08), and in the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.65). 
 
Senior Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) contributed to the Titans' success by winning two events. Feddersen swam first-place times in the 500 yard free (5:28.84) and 200 yard individual medley (2:19.32), in addition to being a member of the 200 yard medley relay team, which also earned first. 
 
Other Titans who notched a first-place finish include freshman Alexa Starkey (Normal. Ill.-Normal Community West), who took home first in the 1000 yard freestyle. The freshman recorded a time of 11:22.42, a season-best. Starkey also put up impressive times in the 50 and 100 yard free to garner second place in both events, and was a member of the winning 200 yard free relay quad. 
 
Sophomore Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University) was the only Titan to be a part of both winning relay teams and earned first in the 200 yard free with a time of 2:04.16. Senior Anna Keebler (Verona, Wis.-Middleton) also earned first in the 100 yard backstroke with a season-best, 1:05.72. Freshman Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) touched in first during the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.61. Porter also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 yard IM (2:22.07) and a third-place time in the 100 yard back (1:07.01). 
 
In the 100 yard freestyle, junior Bella Calcagno (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) paved the way for the Green and White. Calcagno earned first place with a time of 57.22 followed by Starkey with a second-place time of 1:01.16. Freshman Julianna Boyle (Carol Stream, Ill.-Glenbard North) rounded out the top-three places, with a time of 1:02.72.
 
On the men's side, individually, junior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) touched in at 22.33 for a first-place ranking. Lowder was also a member of the winning 200 yard free relay. Junior Lane Wagner (Danville, Ill.-Danville) also saw success in the meet after recording a first-place time of 2:00.22 in the 200 yard back, a season-best. Wagner also notched second in the 100 yard back (56.60) and 200 yard IM (2:04.57). 
 
The Titans are scheduled to return home for a tri-meet with Illinois College and Millikin University Friday, Jan. 20 at Fort Natatorium in Bloomington, Ill. for a 6 p.m. start.
