CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team wrapped up competition at the Charlie Wrublewski Invitational today, Sept. 3. Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill. - Plainfield East) and
Ellie Eager (Mendota, Ill. - Marquette Academy) were named to the all-tournament team.
The Titans fell short to the host team, Mount St. Joseph University in five sets (13-25, 13-25, 25-12, 25-17, 12-15) in the first match of the day. The Green and White came back to defeat Earlham College in straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-19).
French had an impressive performance in IWU's bout with MSJ, recording her first collegiate double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. French also recorded four aces and a pair of blocks. Junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill. - Sacred Heart-Griffin) led the Titans in digs with 25. Freshman
Katie Gund (Pewaukee, Wis. - Pewaukee) contributed 18 assists along with three aces, and junior
Courtney Heffren (Eureka, Ill. - Eureka) added nine kills and eight digs. Eager led the Titans with two solo blocks and added six kills.
The Titans recorded 35 kills in the second match as French and Heffren led the way with 10 and nine, respectively. As a unit, the offense accumulated 14 service aces, five of which came courtesy of freshman Raegan Watts (Forsyth, Ill. - Maroa Forsyth). French had four herself, giving her eight on the day, and Washko tallied three. Meanwhile, Heffren and Washko led the defense with 15 and 14 digs, respectively.
