BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will host a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game against Augustana College Saturday, April 9, before heading to Chicago for a neutral site faceoff against Christopher Newport University, April 10. The Titans (2-9, 0-1) welcome Augie (4-4) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start and will meet CNU (6-6) on the campus of the University of Chicago for a 12 p.m. start.
The Titans opened CCIW play against Carroll University Saturday, April 2 where the Green and White lost a hard-fought battle, 11-10 in overtime. IWU batted back from a 8-5 deficit, to push the game into OT after tying the match 10-all with under three minutes remaining in the game. However, Carroll managed to capitalize on its golden goal opportunity to leave with the win.
With one conference game under its belt, IWU will act as the Vikings first league game of the season. The Vikings last touched the field against St. Ambrose University, March 29 where they fell 17-5.
Following the close game between the Titans and Pioneers, junior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) was named the CCIW Offensive Player of the Week, April 4, after recording a team-high three goals, one assist, and a team-high six ground balls. While Gleason picked up the offensive distinction, Carroll's Clara Jelacic was named the Defensive Player of the Week due to Saturday's game.
IWU and Augustana's all-time history goes back to the very beginning. Against Augie, IWU holds a split record of 4-4. The Vikings saw success in the first four matches against the Titans starting in the inaugural 2015 campaign and even beatout the Titans in the first-ever CCIW Tournament finale in 2016. Although, in the 2017 season the Titans turned its luck around. After falling to the Vikings in regular season play, 12-11 in overtime, that same year IWU was once again matched up to play Augie in the CCIW Championship game. The Titans not only took its first win over the Vikings but collected its first-ever CCIW Tournament title and first NCAA bid in program history.
Ever since that 2017 tournament finale, IWU has been successful against the Vikings and have gone on to win each game since.
The Green and White will meet CNU in Chicago and will play each other for the first time in program history. The Captains are also scheduled to play CCIW opponent Chicago Friday, April 8 before seeing the Titans on Sunday.
Both games will be available via livestats, here. A livestream will be available for the IWU vs. Augie match,
