Ping Lands on D3baseball’s Team of the Week

First national honor of career

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After being selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wiscsonsin hitter of the week yesterday, junior Jalen Ping (Chatham, Ill.-Glenwood) of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team added another accolade to his resume. Ping landed on D3baseball.com's Team of the Week, April 6. This is the Chatham, Ill. native's first national honor of his career.

Ping led the Illinois Wesleyan offense this week as the Titans out slugged its opponents 46-5 over its two games. In the team's midweek game against Knox, Ping delivered a 3-for-4 afternoon that included two doubles, one walk, two runs scored, and four driven in, in the 23-4 win. The Chatham, Ill. native then produced a 2-for-3 effort in the team's CCIW opener against Carthage. Ping produced one double and another four RBI in another stat-stuffing performance in the 23-1 victory. 

With his monster week, Ping tops the CCIW in two-baggers with 12, 10th in triples with two, and is third in the RBI department with two dozen. In addition, he is eighth in the CCIW in slugging percentage at a .646 clip, and 10th in OPS at 1.107

For the week, he notched a terrific .714 average, five runs, five hits, three doubles, eight RBI, and a 1.143 slugging percentage.  

The Green and White are back in action with a double dip against Elmhurst College, Saturday, April 9. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
