Ping Garners CCIW Hitter of the Week

Second weekly award of the season

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - After another monster week at the plate for junior Jalen Ping (Chatham, Ill.-Glenwood) of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin office named Ping the CCIW Hitter of the Week, April 5. This is the second weekly award for the Chatham, Ill. native as he claimed this award earlier this season, March 15. For the season, this is the third time an IWU baseball player has been chosen.

Ping led the Illinois Wesleyan University offense this week by out scoring its opponents 46-5 over its two games. In the team's midweek game against Knox, Ping enjoyed a 3-for-4 afternoon that included two doubles, one walk, two runs scored, and four driven in, in the 23-4 win. The Chatham, Ill. native backed up the performance with a 2-for-3 effort in the team's CCIW opener against Carthage. Ping enjoyed one double and another four RBI in another stat-stuffing performance in the 23-1 victory. 

With his phenomenal week, Ping leads the conference in doubles with 12, sits 10th in triples with two, and is third in the RBI category with 24. In addition, he is eighth in the CCIW in slugging percentage with a .646 clip and 10th in OPS at 1.107

For the week, he accumulated a whopping .714 average, five runs, five hits, three doubles, eight RBI, and a 1.143 slugging percentage.  

Ping and the Titans are scheduled to take on North Central College later today at 4 p.m. This game will serve as the team's home opener.
