Maldonado led the Titans with six goals and two assists

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team moved to 3-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 25-1 thumping of Elmhurst University Wednesday, April 20.

Sophomore Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James Conant) opened the scoring for the Green and White as the Hoffman Estates, Ill. native caused a Bluejay turnover and net a top-shelf goal. Maldonado's goal kick started a five-goal unanswered run.

Senior Cassandra Jones (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant) scored the Titans fifth goal off a pass from Maldonado to give the Titans a 5-0 lead. The Titans shutout was halted as Elmhurst found its first goal of the game with 5:33 to go in the first quarter. However, Maldonado quickly answered, just nine seconds later, as she received the pass from Jones to take back a five-goal lead, 6-1. 

Senior Landry Elliott (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet) completed the hat trick, her fifth of the season, after capitalizing on a free position attempt to push IWU ahead, 7-1 at the end of the first quarter. 

Within the first 2:56 of the second quarter, the Titans scored another five unanswered goals, jump started by junior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) just 42 seconds into the quarter. Ahead 12-1, the Titans forced an Elmhurst timeout with 11:52 to go as IWU made a goalie swap. 

Senior Rebecca Rymarscuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich) started in net for the Green and White registering two saves as her freshman sister, Lizzie Rymarscuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-St. Viator) stepped in during the second 15. Freshman Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington High) grabbed her first career goal in the Green and White uniform as sophomore Hannah Trousdale (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) found Setzler to up the Titans lead, 13-1. 

IWU packed on an additional two goals in the second quarter to end the half up, 15-1. The Ttians never looked back in the second half scoring10 more goals to end the game, 25-1. One of those coming from co-captain and junior Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) who recorded her first career goal. 

The Titans were led by Maldonado who scored a single-game career-high six goals in addition to two assists for an eight-point evening. Trousdale also picked up career-highs in goals, assists, and points with four, two, and six, respectively. Lizzie Rymarscuk notched six saves for a 1.000 save percentage. 

IWU returns to the field Saturday, April 23 to face league-leader and 20th-ranked University of Chicago in Chicago for a 1 p.m start.
