Seven Titans Finish in Top-10 as Men’s Golf Wins Blueboy Invitational

Morton earns medalist honors, Titan ‘B’ team places third

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Seven Titans finished in the top-10 as the Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team won the Blueboy Invitational held at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill. Saturday, April 16 in the team's final tournament of the regular season. Senior Jimmy Morton (Sugar Grove, Ill.-Marmion Academy) took home medalist honors, while senior Carl Christainsen (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North) finished runner-up, and freshman Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) placed third.

Illinois Wesleyan's 'A' team matched its opening round score, shooting a five-under 283 for the second consecutive day. Kirkwood Community College finished second with a 588, while IWU's 'B' team took third with a 597 after shaving five strokes off its Friday round.

Morton carded a three-under 69 to finish six-under at 138, one stroke ahead of Christiansen. Firing a four-under 68, Christiansen posted the lowest round of the tournament to climb into second at 139. Clifford grabbed third at one-under 143 after carding an even par.

Junior Bobby Beaubien (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) grabbed a share of fourth as he finished even on the tournament, with senior Will Nummy (Winnetka, Ill.-New Trier) finishing sixth at one-over.

Rounding out IWU's top-10 finishes were junior Ethan Wilkins (Sussex, Wis.-Lake Country Lutheran) and freshman Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township), who tied for eighth. Wilkins posted a one-over 73 to go 147 over 36 holes. One day removed from a hole-in-one, Pohl fired a three-under 69 to catapult up the standings.

Illinois Wesleyan now turns its attention to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship at Brown Deer Golf Course in Milwaukee, Wis. Friday-Saturday, April 29-30.
