Women’s Lacrosse’s Home Opener Spoiled by Capital

Titans host Concordia-Chicago tomorrow, March 5, at 1 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team lost its home opener to Capital University Saturday afternoon, March 5, by an 18-3 final score. The Titans slipped to 0-3 on the season, while the Comets remained undefeated at 4-0.

Seniors Cassandra Jones (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant) and Landry Elliott (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet), along with sophomore Darby Moore (St. Louis, Mo.-Metro) were credited with IWU's goals. Jones, Elliott, junior Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East), and junior Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior) picked up two ground balls each, with Jones adding a team-high three caused turnovers. Rymarcsuk finished with nine saves in net.

The Comets scored the game's first 13 goals before Jones scored with 8:32 to play in the third quarter. 

The two teams traded goals from there, as Moore and Elliott answered Capital scores. The Comets tacked on three more over the final 12 minutes after Elliott's goal with 12:27 to go, as the Titans fell, 18-3.

IWU is right back at it tomorrow, March 6, with a 1 p.m. game against Concordia University-Chicago at Tucci Stadium.
