CCIW Release

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - After junior Scott Monocchio (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team tossed his first career complete game shutout March 17 against Ripon College, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin office rewarded Monocchio with the CCIW Pitcher of the Week Award as the league announced, March 22. This is the Glen Ellyn, Ill. native's first career weekly award.

After throwing one inning in relief in IWU's win over Anderson March 15, Monocchio fanned a career-high 10 over nine innings of work, while allowing just four hits in a 9-0 victory over Ripon, March 17. The Southpaw held opponents to a .147 batting average by generating seven flyouts and eight groundouts.

The shutout marked the first by a Titan since Evan Hill blanked Greenville last season, March 2, 2021. Additionally, Monocchio kept one of Division III's best hitters at bay, as RC's Nick Terrell, who holds the third-best batting average in the country at .606, was limited to 1-for-4 at the plate and struck out twice. He had previously struck out just once all season.

Monocchio and the Titans are set for a three-game series against Wabash College, March 26-27 with Saturday being played at Horenberger Field and Sunday being played in Crawfordsville, Ind. First pitch on Saturday is slated for 12 p.m.
