Women’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Colorado College

Titans play Rhodes tomorrow, Feb. 27, at 12 p.m.

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell in its season opener to Colorado College, 21-7, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 26, in Memphis, Tenn. IWU is now 0-1 on the season, while CC moved to 1-0.

The Titans (0-1) could not overcome a slow start, as the Tigers (1-0) raced out to a 7-1 lead after the opening period. The Green and White scored two goals in each of the following three quarters, but Colorado College outshot Illinois Wesleyan, 47-19. 

Seniors Bridget O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.-Marist), Cassandra Jones (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant), and Landry Elliott (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet) scored two goals apiece, with O'Malley adding a pair of assists. Jones led the team with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Freshman Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) notched the first goal of her career, while sophomore Hannah Trousdale (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) was credited with one assist.

In goal, sophomore Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior) got the start, where she made seven saves. Freshman Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-St. Viator) notched a game-high eight saves in between the posts in the second half. 

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 27, against Rhodes College at 12 p.m.
