Titans face Colorado College and Rhodes Feb. 26-27

2/25/2022 9:30:00 AM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team opens its 2022 season with a two-game weekend Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 26-27. The Titans travel to Memphis, Tenn. for a neutral site match against Colorado College Saturday at 2 p.m., before facing host Rhodes College (0-1) the next day for a 12 p.m. scheduled start. Like the Titans, Colorado College will begin its season with Saturday's bout.

Head coach Lindsey Kellar enters her eighth season with the Green and White alongside Grianne Kelly in her first year as the Titans' assistant coach. Last season the Titans finished with an overall record of 11-4 and 4-1 in league play and received the program first-ever at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The Titans won a share of the conference's regular season championship with University of Chicago and Carroll University, which saw IWU seeded third in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament. The Green and White's season ended at the NCAA Tournament after losing to No. 10 Messiah University in the second round.

Kellar returns 14 student-athletes to the squad in addition to four newcomers including Mallory Mills (Schaumburg, Ill.-Conant), Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-St. Viator), Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington High), and Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North)

IWU and Colorado College have faced each other three times dating back to the 2018 season. The Tigers hold the advantage in the all-time series, 3-0. The latest encounter took place in the 2020 season and acted as the Titans season opener where they were edged 15-12, Feb. 22, 2020. The Tigers will face Rhodes Friday, Feb. 25 before squaring off with the Titans on Saturday.

The Titans have seen Rhodes a total of five times since the 2017 season, playing them twice in that same year. The Lynx have the upperhand in the all-time series, 4-1. Similar to CC, the Titans last saw RC in the 2020 season during their opening weekend. IWU dropped its game against the Lynx 12-11. The Green and White took its first win in the 2019 season during a season-opening trip to Louisville, Ky. where they defeated RC 19-16, Feb. 17. Rhodes will be the only team entering the weekend with a countable game under their belt. The Lynx opened their season Feb. 18 against the University of Alabama in Huntsville where they fell 20-11.

The games will be available via livestats here and livestream here. Make sure to follow along with everything about women's lacrosse on Twitter (@IwuWlax) and Instagram (iwuwlax).
