Gilbert’s Record-Breaking Swim Leads to CCIW Swimmer of the Week Honors

Fourth time in her career to earn the weekly award

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's swimming and diving team was announced as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week, Tuesday, Feb. 1. This is Gilbert's second weekly award this season and the fourth time in her career. Gilbert and the Titans competed in their last home meet against Franklin College, Saturday Jan. 29, at Fort Natatorium.

Fittingly, on senior day, the Northbrook, Ill. native broke a pool record that was set back in her first collegiate meet in the 100 yard butterfly. The senior's time of 57.91 bested the previous pool record of 58.99 set by NCAA Division II Lewis' Ebony McCray Oct. 26, 2018. Not only did Gilbert break the pool record and set a personal-best time, she also claimed her first individual win of the day. Gilbert continues to lead the CCIW in the 100 yard butterfly, beating out her previous top time, with her swim from the senior day meet.

In addition to her record-breaking swim, Gilbert added a win in the 200 freestyle, where she clocked in a season-best 1:56.56 and now sits second in the conference in the 200 free.

Illinois Wesleyan will host the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Diving Championship Feb. 12, before traveling to Pleasant Prairie, Wis. for the CCIW Swimming Championships Feb. 17-19.
