Women’s Soccer Back on the Road for Bout with Vikings

Match scheduled to kickoff at 5 p.m.

10/14/2022 10:00:00 AM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team continues its road-game stretch Saturday, Oct. 15, with a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at North Park University in Chicago. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Holmgren Athletic Complex. The women's match will be the first leg of a doubleheader as the IWU men's team will square off against the No. 6 Vikings at 7:30 p.m.

The Titans (6-2-3, 4-0-1 CCIW) return to conference play after facing the University of Whitewater-Wisconsin, Tuesday, Oct. 11. IWU saw just its second loss of the season, as the Warhawks scored a late goal to earn the 1-0 decision. North Park (3-7-2, 1-2-1 CCIW) continues conference action after facing a 6-1 defeat to No. 20 North Central College, Oct 12.

Currently in the standings, the Titans remain at the top while the Vikings sit at the edge of playoff qualifications in seventh. Including the two teams meeting on Saturday, IWU has three remaining matches in CCIW play, as the Vikings still have four on the conference slate.

The Green and White are on a 22-game winning streak against NPU starting in 1999. Overall the Titans are ahead in the all-time series, 25-3 dating back to the 1994 season, with Saturday's evening-match marking the 29th all-time meeting. Most recently, IWU defeated the Vikings last campaign, 5-0, in Chicago, Sept. 25. The last two meetings between IWU and NPU have been in the Vikings territory, but home-field advantage has little wear and tear on the Titans as they hold a 13-2 away record against North Park.

Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community), fifth-year senior and co-captain, has recorded a total of 150 career-points. Among active career-leaders, Steffens sits fourth across all divisions in points and second in goals with 64. In fact, among all active career leaders, the top-five in points are from Division III institutions.

In between the posts for the Titans all season has been sophomore Kayla Borg (McHenry, Ill.-Cary Grove). With a 6-2-1 record, Borg ranks first in three out of four categories across the CCIW including, goals against average (.727), shutouts per game (.455), and in save percentage (.840). Out of the Titans 11 games played, IWU has only had eight goals against this season, the lowest in the conference.
