French’s Big Night Not Enough As Women’s Volleyball Drops Road Match At NPU

Titans Fall to 12-8, 2-3 in conference play

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team fell to North Park University Wednesday night, Oct. 12, in a four-set battle (25-15, 14-25, 25-20, 25-21). The Titans fall to 12-8 overall and 2-3 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play, while North Park moves to 17-6, and 4-2 in CCIW matches. 

Freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) continued to make a name for herself, as she used a .394 attack percentage to post a team-best 15 kills for the Titans. The Romeoville, Ill. native recorded a career-high and match-high six aces. Junior Courtney Heffren (Eureka, Ill.-Eureka)  recorded two aces, coming in back-to-back serves in the second set. Senior Dana Kiszkowski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) and junior Lily Summers (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North) each added an ace, with Kizkowski also contributing nine kills on a .368 clip.

French continued her impressive night defensively with 23 digs to notch her 11th double-double of the season. The 23 digs ties her career-best. Junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) also had 23 digs for Illinois Wesleyan. Senior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) led IWU in blocks with five, two of which came on solo rejections. 

As a team, the Green and White finished with a .091 attacking percentage to North Park's .141. IWU tallied 10 blocks, which proved to be a key in holding the conference's kills leader to 17 kills on a whopping 50 attempts.

The Titans fell behind big in the opening set, spotting the Vikings a 13-point lead before falling, 25-15. IWU rallied back to take the second in convincing fashion, 25-14, but NPU rallied to edge Illinois Wesleyan in the third and fourth sets en route to the 3-1 victory.

Illinois Wesleyan will enjoy a week off before traveling to Elmhurst University next Wednesday, Oct. 19 for a midweek CCIW matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
