Women’s Volleyball Drops Road Match at Elmhurst

Titans return to action Friday, Oct. 21 against UW-La Crosse

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team dropped its match against Elmhurst University in four sets Wednesday night, Oct. 19. The Titans fall to 12-9 overall and 2-4 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. Elmhurst moved to 6-12, 3-4 in the CCIW. 

The Titans jumped out to take the first set, winning seven of the last nine points en route to a 25-20 win. 

Elmhurst controlled much of the second set, using an 11-point run to jump out 17-6. The Titans fought back with 10 unanswered points to bring the game within one, but never regained control, dropping the second match 25-19. 

The third set saw back-and-forth action between the teams, but the Bluejays closed the match after taking five of the last six points, winning the third set 25-19.

IWU jumped out 8-1 in the fourth set before Elmhurst regained control of the set at 18 all. The Bluejays went on to win the match with a final score of 29-27. 

Senior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) led the Titans with 11 kills on a .450 attack percentage, and racked up a season-high 14 points. The Orland Park, Ill. native added five blocks for the Green and White. Junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart Griffin) recorded a team-high 20 digs. Her average of 5.52 digs per set leads the CCIW. 

Illinois Wesleyan held the CCIW's leading blocker, Katelyn Bower, to two blocks on the night. Elmhurst's Keely Larson, the league's most efficient hitter, was limited to a .125 attack percentage after tallying seven kills and four errors. The Titans recorded 51 kills on a .149 clip, while Elmhurst picked up 61 kills with a .218 attack percentage. Elmhurst held an advantage over the Titans in assists (55-47) and (81-76), while the Titans led the match in aces (5-3) and blocks (9-4). 

The Green and White looks to bounce back against UW-La Crosse Friday, Oct. 21, on the first day of the WIAC-CCIW Crossover Tournament. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. UW-Stevens Point will host the two-day event set to take place Friday-Saturday, Oct. 21-22.
