MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today, Oct. 1, at the Cornell Quadrangular in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The Titans' record now sits at 10-6 overall, and 2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. IWU was swept by host, Cornell College, in the morning before falling in five to Coe College.
In the opening match, the host team swept Illinois Wesleyan, 25-13, 25-22, 25-17. Cornell College held slight advantages in kills (37-32), aces (4-2), assists (34-32), blocks (9-8), and digs (40-36), but hit .242 in the three sets, compared to IWU's .093.
Senior Dana Kiszkowski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) led the Green and White with nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) and junior
Jordan Pierce (Bonfield, Ill.-Herscher) recorded 16 and 13 assists, respectively.
Junior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) rejected four Ram attacks, two solo and two assisted. Sophomore
Morgan Harrington (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield East) assisted in three stuffs for the Titans.
Illinois Wesleyan fell to Coe in five sets (26-28, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 10-15) to complete its appearance in Iowa. Coe (15-3, 2-0 ARC) clipped a .218 attack percentage to IWU's .184, but the Titans led the Kohawks in almost other every category, with advantages in kills (70-64), assists (65-59), aces (14-4), blocks (9-3), and digs (107-103). The Titans had 30 attack errors to Coe's 19, which proved to be costly for the Green and White.
Freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) led the match with a career-best 25 kills on a .229 attack percentage. French and junior
Courtney Heffren (Eureka, Ill.-Eureka) each tallied four aces with junior
Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) just behind them with three.
Defensively, Washko led the Green and White in digs, recording 28 in the match. Babec continued to show her net patrol, as she recorded four more blocks for IWU, all of which were assisted.
The Titans saw three players record a double-double performance in the match against the Kohawks. French paired her 25 kills with 17 digs. Pierce recorded 11 digs to go along with a career-best 26 assists. Erdman also recorded a double-double with assists and digs, as she notched 30 and 16, respectively.
