D3hoops.com Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the third time in his career, and the second time this season, senior Matthew Leritz (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis University HS) was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week Tuesday, Jan. 25. Leritz represents the fourth time a member of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team has earned the recognition this season.
With his third career selection, Leritz has now garnered the national honor more than any other Titan on the men's side. He and Korey Coon are the only players in program history to earn the award multiple times, with Coon's selections coming in 1999 and 2000. Leritz is tied with Kendall Sosa for the most honors in both IWU men's and women's basketball history, and joins Sosa as the only Titan basketball player to reel in the award multiple times in a season.
Leritz was outstanding for the Titans last week, Jan. 17-22, leading IWU to three wins. He began the week with 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including three three-pointers in a huge win over then-No. 12 Elmhurst. For the week, Leritz averaged 19 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game, while shooting 69 percent form the field and 55 percent from beyond the arc.
The senior forward was joined on the five-person team by UMass-Dartmouth's Marcus Azor, Nicols' Jakigh Dottin, Geneva's LyleTipton, and UW-Oshkosh's Levi Borchert.
Leritz and the Titans return to action Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Elmhurst University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at R.A. Faganel Hall.
