Steffens Named to D3soccer.com All-American Team

Only the fourth Titan in IWU women’s soccer history to be selected

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team was named to the D3soccer.com Women's All-American Third Team as a midfielder, announced Monday, Jan. 24.

This is the first time Steffens has been selected as an All-American by D3soccer.com. She is just the fourth Titan to be selected as a D3soccer.com's All-American and the first since Mary Kate Schmidt was named to the first team in 2015.

IWU has had a women's soccer player named to D3soccer.com's All-American teams a total of six times. Former Titan, Mary Kate Schmidt was a two-time selection on the first team in 2015 and second team in 2014. Emily Hinchman was also a two-time honoree with third team distinctions in 2011 and 2010. Also on the first-ever 2010 list was Ali Novak as a second team honoree and the only goalkeeper to be selected for the Green and White.

A captain for the Green and White, Steffens played a vital role as a midfielder. The senior helped the Titans to a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Regular Season Co-Championship. She led the team and conference in points (33) and goals (13), and was honored with multiple distinctions throughout the 2021 campaign. Additionally, she posted a career-high seven assists.

The Normal, Ill. native was voted the CCIW Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and is the only player to be a two-time Offensive Player of the Year honoree, as she was also recognized in 2019. She was also named to the All-CCIW First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team.

The senior put up her third career hat trick during a 3-1 win over Carroll University, Oct. 23 and was also named the CCIW Offensive Player of the Week Oct. 5, after contributing a total of six-points over two games.

Steffens is the only CCIW women's soccer player to be selected on a d3soccer.com All-American Teams.
