KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's and men's swimming and diving teams closed out its two-day road trip against Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Saturday, Jan. 22. The women's team edged the Firebirds with a score of 147-140, while the men fell, 190-99.

The women kicked it off for the Titans in the 200 yard medley relay. The grouping of
Natalie Wajda (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South),
Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University),
Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North), and
Megan Wong (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren Township) touched in with a first-place time of 1:51.79, this season's fastest time in that event for the Titans.

In the meet's last event, this same group picked up another first-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. In a new order of Fudge, Gilbert, Wajda, and Wong, the quad touched in a time of 3:40.13.Â

In the 1000 yard freestyle, the Titans swam the top-two times courtesy of Wajda and freshman
Alexa Starkey (Normal. Ill.-Normal Community West). Wajda swam a time of 11:13.15, a season-best, to garner her a first-place finish. Starkey swam a career-best 11:15.28 to beat out her previous best of 11:38.43. Wajda also picked up a solo win in the 200 yard backstroke with a season-best time of 2:10.48.Â

Gilbert earned a first-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a season-best 5:16.88 and Starkey followed with a second-place finish at 5:36.05, a career-best. Gilbert collected her second first-place finish of the meet in the 200 yard butterfly, recording a time of 2:08.75.

Junior
Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) and freshman
Jade Kaminska (Jablonna, Mazovia, Poland-Maria Knopnicka) provided IWU with a one-two punch in the 200 breaststroke. A season-best for Feddersen gave her the win, and a career-best for Kaminska was good for second. In the 100 yard freestyle, senior Wong led the way with a time of 55.90 as freshman
Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary-Grove Community) followed, touching in at 56.06.Â

Feddersen swam another top time in the 100 yard breaststroke, earning her second first-place finish of the meet touching in at 1:09.98. Fudge grabbed the first place time in the 100 yard backstroke with a career-best 1:00.93.Â

The men's team also saw success in the 400 yard freestyle relay as they produced the top-two times.
Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community),
Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield),
Jake Kalenowski (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North), and
Alex Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) clinched the first-place spot with a time of 3:17.87.
Henry Moore (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial),
Shannon Pinto (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community),
Colin McKibben (Green Oaks, Ill.-Libertyville), and
Donald Tichy (Chicago, Ill.-Chicago HS for Agricultural Science) earned second place touching in a time of 3:34.06.Â

Sophomore Moore and senior
Jackson Rapala (Roselle, Ill.-Lake Park) claimed first and second place in the 1000 yard freestyle. Moore touched in a career-best 10:21.65 as Rapala recorded a season-best time of 10:36.74.Â

In the 500 yard freestyle, IWU swept the podium, led by senior McCauley who touched in with a season-best time of 4:49.20. Moore and Rapala picked up second and third, respectively. Moore finished with a time of 5:05.10, while Rapala touched in another season-best of 5:09.38

McCauley also grabbed a first-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly to record a season-best time of 1:59.23.Â

Senior Day is on the horizon for the Green and White. The Titans will host Franklin College next Saturday, Jan. 29 at Fort Natatorium for a 1 p.m. start time.Â
