Swimming and Diving Hits the Road for Back-to-Back Meets

Titans battle Millikin Jan. 21 and Carthage Jan. 22

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel for back-to-back meets Friday, Jan. 21 against Millikin University and Saturday. Jan. 22 against Carthage College. The Titans will head to Decatur, Ill. before meeting Carthage in Kenosha, Wis. the following day.

Senior Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield) of the men's team was announced as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week, Tuesday, Jan. 18. McCauley, who has earned the award for the fourth time in his career, garnered two first-place finishes against Wabash College Friday, Jan. 14. The senior set a season-best time in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:53.60) earning him a first-place finish, and also swam a top time in the 200 yard butterfly (1:59.81) which earned him his second win of the meet.

On the men's side the Titans are coming off a dual with Wabash Jan. 14, while the women last competed at the Carthage Classic, Dec. 2-4. Millikin's men's and women's teams dipped its toes into CCIW competition, as its last outing was against Wheaton College Friday, Jan. 14. Carthage last competed at its own classic Dec. 2-4, the women's team took home a first-place finish as the men placed second overall.

The Titans have seen success over the years against Millikin. The women's team have been on an 11-meet win streak, dating back to 2008-09 as the Titans outscored the Big Blue 110-92 Jan. 23, 2009. More recently, the two teams last competed in a dual meet Jan. 24, 2020 as IWU secured the win 174-106. Against Carthage, the women took its first dual win against the Firebirds last season Feb. 5, 2021 with a score of 150-129.

On the men's side, IWU holds the all-time advantage against the Big Blue, 10-1. In the two squads most recent competition the Titans beat Millikin 124-108 Jan. 24, 2020. The Titans and Firebirds have gone head-to-head a total of 10 times with Saturday's meet marking the 11th, and will look to end Carthage's all-time winning streak.
