D3hoops Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
Senior Kendall Sosa (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) was named to the D3hoops.com Central Region Player of the Year the organization announced Wednesday morning, April 21. Sosa, who also earned first team all-region honors, is the first Titan to be named the region's top player since Christina Solari was back in 2009.

In an unusual season that saw Illinois Wesleyan play just 10 games, Sosa scored 267 points, grabbed 38 rebounds, tallied 31 steals, and added 27 assists. She was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Most Outstanding Player and was a unanimous First Team All-CCIW pick for the second straight season. She led the CCIW in scoring at 26.7 points per game, ranking second nationally, and also topped the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.460), free throw percentage (.883), three-pointers made per game (2.9), and steals per game (3.17). She also ranked third in overall field goal percentage (.497).

Sosa's historic season saw her break the IWU single-game scoring record with 47 points in an overtime win at Millikin, Feb 9, and reel in countless accolades. She was a two-time CCIW Player of the Week and finished her career as a five-time winner of the award. Nationally, Sosa was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week three times, becoming just the fourth player in CCIW history to do so over the course of their career.

Sosa was one of three CCIW players recognized on the All-Central Region teams. Sosa and Wheaton's Hannah Williams earned first team honors, while Millikin's Elyce Knudsen was a second team selection and named the region's rookie of the year.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. Because of the pandemic, some regions had limited numbers of teams which played and were combined for awards purposes. Teams had to play a minimum of five games to make their players eligible.
