SPRINGFIELD, Ohio. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team collected its first road win Sunday, March 7, topping Wittenberg University, 14-5. The Ttians now advance to 2-1 on the season, while Wittenberg fell to 0-1.

IWU was led by junior Cassandra Jones (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant) who started the scoring early with the first goal of the game as the Titans took the 1-0 advantage. Jones registered a career-high four goals, two assists, and matched a career-best with five ground balls.

Sophomore Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) helped the Titans by putting up a career-high three goals and three assists. Senior Riley Rooney (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles) also put up three goals, while juniors Bridget O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and Landry Elliott (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet) notched two goals apiece.

The Titans opened up their third game of the season with three early unanswered goals from Jones, O'Malley, and Rooney, respectively. The Tigers could not catch up to the Green and White as the closet scoring margin was 4-2 with 20 minutes left in the first half.

IWU's offense continued to take charge with another unanswered run of four goals before the end of the first half resulting in a Titan 8-2 lead at the midpoint.

Gleason continued things with back-to-back goals to start the second half. The Green and White added four more goals to Gleason's two in the second half while Wittenberg added three to its overall score to put the final tally at 14-5 in favor of Illinois Wesleyan.

IWU returns home next weekend for a two-game homestand Saturday-Sunday, March 13-14 against UW-River Falls and Transylvania. Both are set for 2 p.m. starts.
