GRANVILLE & SPRINGFIELD, Ohio. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team embarks on its first roadtrip of the season as IWU travels to Ohio for back-to-back games Saturday-Sunday, March 6-7. The Titans will face off against Denison University Saturday, March 6 in Granville, Ohio before heading west to play Wittenberg University Sunday, March 7 in Springfield, Ohio. Both games are slated for a 1 p.m. ET start.
IWU will return to the field after a nail-biting 9-7 victory over Aurora in the Titans home opener Tuesday, March 2. The two squads exchanged goals back and forth throughout, until freshman Darby Moore (St. Louis, Mo.-Metro) broke the 4-4 tie in the second half, collecting her first career goal. The Spartans never caught up as the Titans advanced to 1-0 on the season.
With one game under their belt, IWU's Riley Rooney (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles) and
Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) lead the Titans in points with three. Gleason tallied two assists and one goal, while Rooney put up two goals with one assist. Senior goalkeeper
Janaye Godfrey (Portland, Ore.-Lincoln) stood strong for the Green and White earlier this week making 15 saves, which tied her career-high.
The Titans will take on Denison for the second time ever, with the first meeting coming on March 14, 2018. The game went back and forth as each team put up six goals in both the first and second halves resulting in double overtime. DU eventually took the 13-12 win with three minutes left on the clock. This will mark DU's first game of the season.
Wittenberg will host IWU this weekend March 7 in their season opener as well. The two teams will meet for the third time since 2018. IWU holds a 2-0 record against Witt, with their last meeting resulting in a 17-8 win for the Titans on March 6, 2019.
