Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight in Dominating Fashion at Augsburg

Titans score season-high in goals in 19-7 win

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team completed its sweep of its trip to the Twin Cities with a 19-7 win against Augsburg University Sunday, March 21. IWU extended its win streak to five and moved to 6-1 on the season, while AU dipped to 0-4.

The Green and White's season-high 19 goals came courtesy of nine different players. Junior Bridget O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) led the Titans with four goals, to go along with six draw controls, while junior Cassandra Jones (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant) added three goals, an assist, and 10 draw controls. Sophomore Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) netted a hat trick of her own, and tied sophomore Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) for the team-lead with three caused turnovers.

Seniors Maggie Torres (Chicago, Ill.-Resurrection Prep) and Riley Rooney (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) finished with two goals each, with Rooney assisting on two others. Freshman Hannah Trousdale (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) notched a pair of goals and an assist. Senior Hannah Foley (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant), junior Landry Elliott (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet), and freshman Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Conant) tallied one goal each, while Maldonado also registered an assist.

All three Titan goalkeepers saw action in the game. Senior Janaye Godfrey (Portland, Ore.-Lincoln) earned the win and made two saves, while freshman Olivia Mangan (Franklin, Wis.-Franklin) made three saves in her IWU debut.

Illinois Wesleyan dominated the game from start to finish, as the Titans scored five goals over the first eight minutes of play and never looked back.

Augsburg scored the final two goals of the first half, and the first of the second period, to pull within six, 11-5, but Illinois Wesleyan rattled off three straight to bump its lead back to nine, 14-5, with 21:45 to play.

IWU did not let up, as Maldonado scored with 17:54 on the clock. The goal was the first of her collegiate career and gave the Green and White a double-digit lead, 16-6.

Foley closed out the scoring with a goal, her first of the season, with just over five minutes to go as Illinois Wesleyan cruised to the 19-7 victory.

With the non-conference portion of their schedule now complete, the Titans turn their attention to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. IWU opens league play Saturday, March 27, with a trip to Waukesha, Wis., where it will face Carroll University at 1 p.m.
