BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team opens its 2021 season against Aurora University at Tucci Stadium for a 4 p.m. start Tuesday, March 2. The Titans competed in seven games last year before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

Due to state and local restrictions, as well as campus visitor policies, no spectators will be permitted at any Illinois Wesleyan University sporting events at this time under the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin spectator policy. All CCIW members are fully focused on maintaining the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and campus communities.

The Green and White are led by head coach Lindsey Kellar who enters her seventh season at Illinois Wesleyan. Kellar is joined by former women's lacrosse standout and second-year Graduate Assistant Coach Dani Engelbreit. Seniors Hannah Foley (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant), Riley Rooney (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) and Janaye Godfrey (Portland, Ore.-Lincoln) will serve as the squad's captains.

This will be the fifth matchup between the Titans and the Spartans since 2016. Currently IWU tops AU 4-0 in their overall series, with IWU winning the last meeting 14-2, March 20, 2019. This season's game will also serve as the first time Kellar and the Titans have faced a former player on the opposing coaching staff, as Mariah Smith is in her first season as a graduate assistant for the Spartans.

The Titans welcome back junior Landry Elliott (Milwaukee, Wis.-Nicolet) who led IWU in points and goals with 23 and 20, respectively. Senior Maggie Torres (Chicago, Ill.-Resurrection Prep College) a Chicago, Ill. native returns after a 19 point season, where she tallied 10 goals and nine assists for the Titans. Fellow senior and co-captain Rooney had her fair share of goals in the 2020 season with 13 for a total of 16 points. Right behind Rooney in goals is junior Bridget O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) who put up 11 goals for the Green and White in its shortened season.

Between the posts, IWU returns senior goalkeeper and co-captain Godfrey who played and started in all seven games last season. Godfrey is joined by returning sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior) and Wisconsin native Olivia Mangan (Franklin, Wis.-Franklin).

With a strong class of returnees IWU also welcomes six newcomers to the squad this season including Mangan, Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), Isabella DiMucci (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Saint Viator), Darby Moore (St. Louis, Mo.-Metro), Julia DeMotte (Elmhurst, Ill.-York Community), and Hannah Trousdale (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Hoffman Estates).
