Gilbert’s National Rankings Earn CCIW Swimmer of the Week Distinction

Ranks 23rd in the 1650 free and 18th in the 200 fly in all Division III

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's swimming team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week announced Wednesday, Dec. 8. Gilbert competed at the Carthage Classic with the Titans, taking home a third-place team finish at the classic Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 2-4.

This is Gilbert's first weekly award this season, as well as the third of her career. It is also the Titans third CCIW Swimmer of the Week distinction this season after Shannon Murphy Nov. 3 and Jade Kaminska Nov. 24.

The senior swam untapered best-times in all three of her individual events during the classic. Gilbert competed in the 1650 yard freestyle, 100 butterfly, and the 200 butterfly individually. The Northbrook, Ill. native also had an impressive showing during her relay splits in the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle, and 100 freestyle.

Gilbert's showing of 17:58.05 in the 1650 yard freestyle was not only 19 seconds faster than her previous best but also ranked her 23rd in all Division III. In the 100 yard butterfly the senior recorded a personal-best with a time of 58.44, 0.6 seconds faster than her previous best-time.

On the last day of the invite, Gilbert took home an individual win in the 200 yard butterfly. With a time of 2:07.33, she beat out her previous best by 1.6 seconds now ranking her 18th out of all Division III.

During her relay splits, Gilbert had her best untapered 50 fly and 100 fly splits of 26.14 and
58.07, respectively. She was also less than a tenth of a second off of her 50 free and 100 free
Splits touching in at 24.80 and 53.57, respectively.

Gilbert and the Titans return to the pool after the holiday break for a duel with non-conference Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. inside Fort Natatorium.
