BLOOMINGTON, Ill - The Illinois Wesleyan University football team hits the road for the final time this season Saturday, Nov. 6, for its penultimate game of the 2021 campaign. IWU travels to McCully Stadium for a clash with sixth-ranked Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. Kickoff of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Illinois Wesleyan is looking to build off of its 56-6 win over North Park, Oct. 30, as the Titans enter the contest as winners of three out of their last five. IWU sits at 3-5 on the season and 3-4 in the CCIW, while Wheaton boasts a 7-1 overall record and a 6-1 CCIW mark. The Thunder blasted Elmhurst, 44-0, Oct. 30, for its third shutout of the season. Wheaton is riding a six-game win streak since falling to No. 1 North Central, 20-7, Sept. 18.

DOUBLE THE HONORS!: Senior Anthony Marre's career day in a 56-6 win over North Park last week secured him both CCIW Offensive Player of the Week honors and a spot on the D3football Team of the Week. It is the first CCIW and D3 Football honors of Marre's career.
The Bloomingdale, Ill. native rushed for three scores on 243 yards, including a 91-yard scamper, while he also added five catches for 72 yards. Overall, he finished with 315 yards of total offense, the third-most in IWU history. Nationally, his 243 rushing yards are the 10th-most in all of Division III this season.
STANGE SECURES CCIW WEEKLY AWARD: Junior kicker Andrew Stange was named the CCIW's Special Team Player of the Week, Nov. 1. It is Stange's second weekly award of the season, as he was named Player of the Week on Oct. 4.
Last week in a win against North Park, Stange went a perfect 8-for-8 in extra point attempts, which tied the school record. He also kicked off nine times. He averaged 62.7 yards per kick, with three touchbacks.
BRIGHT FUTURE: The Illinois Wesleyan's junior varsity football team finished its season 6-0 following a 35-6 win over Midwest Prep on Oct. 31. The Titans have recorded wins this season against Rockford, Monmouth, Benedictine, WashU, St. Ambrose and Midwest Prep. The Titan offense averaged 30.5 points per game, while the defense allowed just 8.0 points per game and posted two shutouts.
RUSHING GAME = FIRE: In the Oct. 30 win over North Park, the Illinois Wesleyan offense rushed for 429 yards, the most by the Titans since rushing for 447 against Lakeland, Sept. 29, 1965. Anthony Marre led the rushing attack with 243 yards, the third-most in a single game in program history. Marre rushed for three touchdowns, while sophomore Seth Albin rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Titans have historically been consistent on the road, especially in conference matchups. Over the past 10 seasons, the Green and White boast a .708 win percentage (34-14) in road games. In conference road games, IWU is 23-15 in the previous 10 seasons.
On the road against Wheaton, the Titans are 11-16-1 with their last road win coming in 2017 when IWU defeated Wheaton 14-10 at McCully Stadium.
ALL-TIME VS. THE THUNDER: Against Wheaton all-time, the Thunder hold a 34-29-2 advantage over the Titans. Wheaton has won six out of the last 10 matchups, with the Titans taking close games in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
The last time the Titans and Thunder met was in 2019 at McCully Stadium where Wheaton defeated IWU 24-10.
LAST WIN AT WHEATON: Illinois Wesleyan is in search of its first win at Wheaton's McCully Stadium since Sept. 30, 2017. In that season, the Green and White upended the Thunder, 14-10. After Wheaton turned IWU's 7-0 first quarter lead into a 10-7 fourth-quarter deficit, Brandon Bauer connected with Zach Walsh for a 12-yard touchdown pass. The score capped a 13-play, 86-yard drive and put IWU in front 14-10 with just six seconds left to play. Jordan Hassan paced the defense with 14 tackles, three for loss, and a sack, while Trevor Staley hauled in an interception and added eight tackles.
YEAR 130: In its 130th season, IWU has an overall 1,069-game record of 605-422-42 (.586 winning percentage). Of the 1,069 games, head coach Norm Eash has been involved in 371 of them (335 as a coach, 36 as a player from 1971-74).
Illinois Wesleyan's 35-27 win at Albion on Sept. 13, 2014 was the 1,000th game in Illinois Wesleyan football history. The Titans notched the 600th win in program history with a 12-0 shutout of Augustana last season (March 27, 2021).
EXPERIENCED O-LINE: Illinois Wesleyan is slated to start five seniors across the offensive line in Jake Buhe, Nicholas Cyze, Jacob Finfer, AJ Lust, and Jake Tencza. One of the most experienced offensive line units in the country, the group has combined for 87 starts in 31 games.
200-WIN CLUB: Thirty five-year veteran Norm Eash is one of just nine coaches nationally in NCAA Division III with 200-or-more career wins. Eash, who has won 219 games as the head man at his alma mater, ranks sixth in the country among active head coaches.
ON THE HORIZON: The Titans will play in their final regular season game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Tucci Stadium against Augustana College for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
