Steffens Earns CCIW Offensive Player of the Week

Third weekly honor in Steffens’ career, first offensive honor for the Titans this season

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team was tabbed the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday, Oct. 5. This is Steffens' third weekly honor of her career and the team's first offensive weekly award this season.

Steffens contributed a total of six-points over two games in a 2-0 week. The Titans defeated Elmhurst University 4-0 Wednesday, Sept. 29 before facing non-conference Concordia University Wisconsin Sunday, Oct. 3 where IWU won 4-3 in overtime.

Steffens kicked off the scoring in the CCIW match against Elmhurst. The senior recorded a four-point day in the Titans 4-0 win. The Normal, Ill. native scored the game-winning goal against the Bluejays in addition to two assists. Overall, Steffens played a role in the first three goals against Elmhurst.

Against Concordia Wisconsin, Steffens scored the third goal for the Titans to retake the lead, 3-2. Steffens helped the Titans to a 4-3 overtime win and defended IWU's perfect at-home record of 3-0.

After the two games played this week, Steffens leads the conference in goals per game with 1.60 through 10 games. The senior is also tied for first in conference-only statistics with two goals, two assists, and six points and leads the conference in game-winning goals with two.

Steffens and the Titans ready for CCIW opponent Wheaton College, Saturday, Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
