BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell short in their season opener against Augustana College Saturday, Jan. 23. The women battled to a 139-132 defeat, while the men were edged 132-129 loss.Â

Junior
Mason McCauley (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) won the 200 freestyle (1:49.64), 200 butterfly (2:02.42), and 200 breaststroke (2.25.60) to lead the way for the Titans. Fellow junior
Jackson Rapala (Roselle, Ill.-Lake Park) swam strong, earning two individual titles. Placing first in the 1000 free, Rapala touched in with a time of 10:39.55, follows by freshman
Henry Moore (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) in second with a time of 10:49.0. Rapala also finished nearly a minute ahead of his competitor in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.03 earning him first place.Â

In his debut, freshman
Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) won two events for the Green and White. Lowder came in with a time of 22.14in the 50 free and 54.99 in the 100 fly. He added a second place finish in the 100 free with a time of 50.12. Champaign, Ill. native Moore won the 500 free finishing with a time of 5:10.93.

Freshman diver
Jack Troyer (Arlington Heights, Ill.-John Hersey), broke the 200-point mark with 221.95 on the one-meter dive and 202.80 on the three-meter dive.Â

For the women, junior
Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) racked up two individual titles, sweeping in the 100 fly (1:00.26) and in the 200 fly (2:09.96). She also earned a third place finish in the 100 free (55.31) right behind freshman teammate
Hannah Murray (West Chicago, Ill.-St. Charles East). In her IWU debut, Murray swam a time of 55.15 to finish second. Murray also won the 200 free with a time of 2:00.35 and placed second in the 50 free touching in at 25.70.Â

Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) swept in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, touching in with times of 1:11.15 and 2:32.02, respectively.
Natalie Wajda (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South), another freshman making her debut, won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.58, just ahead of fellow freshman
Jackie Rae Kelch (Peoria, Ill.-Notre Dame). Wajda and Kelch also finished back-to-back in the 100 backstroke, tapping in at 1:02.32 and 1:03.09, respectively.

IWU returns to the pool next weekend, Jan. 30, when Millikin University and North Central College travel to Fort Natatorium. The first event is set to take place at 1 p.m.
