ADA, Ohio - The No. 13 ranked Illinois Wesleyan University volleyball team opened the 2019 season with a loss at No. 23 Ohio Northern University at the 41st annual ONU Invitational Friday afternoon, Aug. 30. IWU bounced back after a tough first set, but ultimately fell in straight sets (4-25, 24-26, 21-25).
Junior Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill.-Wheaton St. Francis HS) led the way for the Titans, tallying a team-high seven kills and tying sophomore Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) for the team-lead with 12 digs, while also chipping in two aces. Sophomore Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) dished out 20 assists, recorded seven digs, and added a team-best two blocks for the Titans.
Illinois Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow, Aug. 31, at 10:30 a.m. ET against No. 6 Wittenberg, before the Titans wrap up the tournament with a 2:30 p.m. ET clash with No. 2 Calvin. Links for the live stats or video stream of IWU's final two matches of the weekend can be found by clicking here.
