BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championships with a 14-4 win over Hamline University on Sunday, May 12, at Tucci Stadium.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 18-2 this season and will play No. 5-ranked Franklin & Marshall (16-4) in the next round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, May 18, at a place and time yet to be announced.
It is the second year in a row that IWU has eliminated Hamline from NCAA play, having topped the Pipers 18-8 at Tucci Stadium in the 2018 championships' second round.
IWU built up an 8-4 halftime lead and outscored the Pipers 6-0 in the second half as the defense came up with a strong effort, led by IWU sophomore goalkeeper
Janaye Godfrey, who made 11 saves against 15 shots on goal.

Riley Rooney each scored four goals to pace the Titans and Engelbreit had a team-best two assists.
Illinois Wesleyan held a 25-17 overall shot advantage and had 19 shots on goal with Hamline taking 15. IWU committed 31 turnovers to 28 for Hamline and the Titans were successful on 17 of 21 clear attempts compared to 15 of 30 for the Pipers.
Each team collected 23 ground balls as Engelbreit, freshman
Cassandra Jones and senior
Jess Schell each claimed four.Â

Hamline (19-2) was led by the three goals from Maya Hernandez.
