Titan Women's Lacrosse Loses in NCAA Third Round

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end in the third round of the NCAA Division III Championships, losing a 19-7 decision to No. 5-ranked Franklin & Marshall in Middelbury, Vt.

Illinois Wesleyan won a season-record number of games and finishes with an 18-3 record while the Diplomats improved to 17-4 and will play for a chance to advance to the final four by playing No. 3 Middlebury on Sunday.

The Diplomats outshot Illinois Wesleyan by a 33-19 margin and had 28 shots on goal compared to 16 for the Titans. The Diplomats were successful on 20 of 21 clear attempts and.had 14 draw controls to 13 for IWU. The Titans collected 14 ground balls to 11 for the Diplomats.

Freshman Cassandra Jones led IWU with three goals while sophomore Riley Rooney and senior Grainne Kelly each had two. Senior Sam Bidlack had two assists and senior Dani Engelbreit had three ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Janaye Godfrey had five ground balls and made nine saves.
