NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan clinched at least a share of its second-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women's lacrosse title with a 20-9 victory at North Central Wednesday evening, April 24.
The Titans improved to 14-2 overall and 6-0 in the CCIW while the Cardinals are now 13-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Under the direction of head coach
Lindsey Kellar, Illinois Wesleyan has now won two CCIW regular season titles and two CCIW Tournament titles in the five-year history of the program.
IWU got four goals each from
Riley Rooney and senior
Grainne Kelly, who also had two assists. Senior
Dani Engelbreit and freshman
Landry Elliott each had three goals and
Bridget O'Malley scored two goals along with senior
Sam Bidlack, who had two assists.
Illinois Wesleyan had a 30-21 lead in total shots and a 29-17 advantage in shots on goal. IWU was successful on 15 of 17 clear attempts and won 23 of the 31 draw controls. Each team had 17 ground balls.
What's Next?
The Titans can win the outright title with a win at home against Dubuque on "Seniors' Day" at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.

Wednesday's semifinal winners will move onto the tournament final on Saturday, May 4, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.
