COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team lost a West region matchup against a strong Colorado College team, falling by a 17-8 score on Washburn Field in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday, March 15.
The Titans are now 5-2 while Colorado College improved to 5-0.
The contest was tied at 2-2 with 12:54 to play in the first half before the Tigers went on a 5-1 spurt to grab a 7-3 lead and led 8-4 at halftime. Colorado College built up a 10-4 before three IWU goals narrowed the deficit to three at 10-7. But another Tiger run of seven straight tallies in a row provided aa 17-7 lead.
The Titans were led by senior
Dani Engelbreit with four goals and freshman
Landry Elliott added two.
Illinois Wesleyan had 11 draw controls, led by five from Engelbreit and four from senior
Grainne Kelly, and was successful in 14 of 21 clears. Sophomore goalkeeper
Janaye Godfrey made nine saves in 49:48 of playing time and freshman keeper
Sydney MacDonald made two in 10:12.
Colorado College led in ground balls 27-20 and took 41 shots compared to 20 for IWU with a 28-15 edge in shots on goal. Illinois Wesleyan committed 29 turnovers to 23 for Colorado College.
Ten players scored for the Tigers, led by three each by Allie Thuet and Maggie O'Donnell.

Illinois Wesleyan returns home from its spring break trip to face Aurora University at Tucci Stadium at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 ... The Spartans are 1-2 ahead of a Saturday game at Wartburg.
