BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Sophomore
Riley Rooney scored four goals and added two assists to lead the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team to a 14-2 nonconference win over Aurora University on Wednesday, March 20, at IWU's Tucci Stadium.
The Titans improved to 6-2 overall and Aurora slipped to 2-3.
IWU rolled out to a 9-0 lead by halftime and won the second half, 5-2. The Titans outshot the Spartans 33-10 and had 29 shots on goal compared to seven for Aurora.
In addition to Rooney, multiple goal scorers for IWU were seniors
Sam Bidlack and
Dani Engelbreit with two each, and freshmen
Landry Elliott and
Cassandra Jones with two apiece. Bidlack led Illinois Wesleyan with three assists and Engelbreit also had two helpers.
Illinois Wesleyan led Aurora, 21-13, in ground ball pickups, led by five each from seniors
Grainne Kelly and
Jess Schell. Aurora admitted to 32 turnovers and Illinois Wesleyan had 20. Sophomore goalkeeper
Janaye Godfrey made five saves in going all 60 minutes in net.
Marina Kanner had both Spartans goals.

Illinois Wesleyan takes a trip to Michigan this weekend, playing at Kalamazoo College on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. ET and then meeting Albion College at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 24.
