Titan Women's Lacrosse Loses to Division II Mountain Lions, 13-12

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, falling by a 13-12 score to NCAA Division II University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Monday, March 11, at Mountain Lion Stadium.

Illinois Wesleyan (4-1) led by a 6-5 score at halftime but surrendered the first five goals of the second half to fall behind 10-6. IWU trailed 13-9 before scoring the final three goals of the game but failed to score in the game's final 3:34.

Sophomore Riley Rooney led IWU with three goals while seniors Dani Engelbreit and Grainne Kelly each added two goals with Kelly adding three assists.
UC-Colorado Springs outshot Illinois Wesleyan 31-23 and held a 22-19 edge in shots on goal. Titan sophomore keeper Janaye Godfrey made nine saves.

UCCS accounted for 26 ground ball pickups to 24 for Illinois Wesleyan and the Mountain Lions were guilty of 25 turnovers to 23 for the Titans.

The Mountain Lions (3-3) received four goals each from Angela Naughton and Kiera Lowe and won 17 draw controls to 10 for IWU.

What's Next?
The game between Illinois Wesleyan and Whitman College has been moved up to Tuesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time, due to a winter storm expected for the Colorado Springs area on Wednesday morning. Go here for links to live stats and live video streaming.
