Amanda Macuiba Qualifies for Olympic Marathon Trials

Former Titan was national champion with 2016 outdoor track & field team

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Former Titan standout Amanda Macuiba of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's cross country and track and field teams qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials in the marathon, which will be held in February. She ran the California International Marathon in 2:44:29, Monday, Dec. 8, eclipsing the qualifying time of 2:45 necessary to earn a spot in the Olympic Trials.

Macuiba, who graduated from IWU in 2016 with bachelor's degrees in psychology and gender studies, was originally a member of the women's soccer team as a goalkeeper before switching to cross country and track. She earned accolades for "Top Newcomer" in 2013 and "Hardest Worker" in 2015 for the cross country teams after making the switch.

She was a member of the 2016 Division III National Championship outdoor track & field team, qualifying in the 3000 meter steeplechase for the national meet. Macuiba was also a five-time All-Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection for the 3000 steeplechase (2014 & 2016 outdoor, 2016 indoor) as well as both indoor and outdoor 5000 meters in 2016.

Currently, Macuiba resides in Gurnee, Ill. and has a full-time position as a compensation analyst at IDEX Corp. She earned her master's degree in human resources from DePaul University in the spring of 2018, while also working as a graduate assistant for the cross country and track teams. Macuiba was a part of the 2017 Big East Men's Coaching Staff of the Year for the indoor track  after the Blue Demons won the conference championship.
