CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team won the rebounding battle but lost its exhibition game at NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University 76-48 Tuesday night, Nov. 5, inside the Banterra Center.
The Titans held a 47-41 advantage on the boards, including an 18-7 edge in offensive caroms, but it was inconsistent shooting that plagued IWU. Illinois Wesleyan finished the game 22-of-73 from floor (30.1 percent) compared to SIU's 31-for-63 showing.Â
Junior Doug Wallen (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central) led the Titans with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while also adding eight rebounds and two assists. Junior Charlie Bair (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) was crucial in IWU's effort on the glass, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds and adding six points.Â
Illinois Wesleyan officially opens the season Tuesday, Nov. 12, when Blackburn College travels to the Shirk Center for a 7 p.m. tip.
