Four Score in Double-Figures as IWU Topples Blackburn, 89-65

Grant Wolfe led all Titans with 16 points

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team toppled Blackburn College in its season opener Tuesday night, Nov. 12, at the Shirk Center. Four Titans tallied double-digit points as IWU shot 53.6 percent (37-of-69) from the floor in the 89-65 win.

Junior point guard Grant Wolfe (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham HS) scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Titans. Sophomore Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University HS) added 15 points, including four three-pointers, while sophomore Peter Lambesis (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-St. Viator HS) chipped in 12 points and freshman Luke Yoder (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic HS) contributed 11.

Junior Charlie Bair (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South HS) was the leading rebounder for the Titans as he grabbed 11 boards, with five of them being offensive rebounds.

IWU led by as many as 34 in the second half after taking a 51-39 lead into halftime. The Titans scored 15 straight points over a four-minute span in the second half to take a decisive margin of victory.

For the game, IWU made 13-of-30 on three-pointers (.433) and scored 36 points in the paint to Blackburn's 16. The Beavers shot 21-of-58 (.362) from the field, 11-of-32 (.344) from three, and 12-of-16 (.750) from the free throw line.

Illinois Wesleyan continues its three-game homestand against Calvin College, Friday, Nov. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the Shirk Center.
