Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Titans Win Fourth Straight With 74-65 Triumph at Anderson

Peter Lambesis and Cory Noe lead the way for IWU

ANDERSON, Ind. – Career nights from sophomores Peter Lambesis (Mt. Prospect, Illl.-St. Viator) and Cory Noe (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) helped the Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball push its win streak to four in-a-row with a gritty 74-65 victory over Anderson University Wednesday night, Nov. 27.

The Titans led by as many as 13 in the opening half, but the Ravens clawed back to retake the lead with roughly three and a half minutes to go. Anderson used a 7-1 run to go up 63-62 and force a IWU timeout.

Out of the break, Lambesis sunk a bucket in transition to give Illinois Wesleyan a lead it would not relinquish. Sophomore Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University HS), freshman Luke Yoder (), and Lambesis scored on three straight possessions and the Titans converted free throws down the stretch to hold on for a nine-point victory.

Lambesis scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting and added eight rebounds. Noe tallied a career-best 16 points off the bench behind four three-pointers, while sophomore Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University HS) tallied 12 points.

Senior Alex O'Neill (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Christian) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and junior Charlie Bair (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) recorded seven. Fellow junior Doug Wallen (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central) filled up the box score with seven points, six rebounds, and a team-best five assists.

As a team, the Titans connected on 27-of-62 field goal attempts (43.5 percent) to the Ravens' 39.3 clip. IWU knocked down nine triples and went 11-for-14 at the charity stripe. AU attempted nine three-pointers in total, knocking down just three, and finished 18-for-26 at the free throw line.

Illinois Wesleyan forced 18 Anderson miscues, aided by eight steals, to finish with 23 points off turnovers. IWU also held the edge in bench points, 24 to 10, blocks, 4 to 1, and assists, 12 to 4.

The Titans return to action next week when they turn their focus to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. IWU kicks off league play Wednesday, Dec. 4, against Wheaton College inside the Shirk Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
